Réalité dés/augmentée 2.0, 2025
Augmented reality installation: wood, stainless steel, glass, plastic, metal
Exploring the boundaries between the real and the virtual, and between opposing aesthetic temporalities, Réalité dés/augmentée 2.0 unfolds in two parts: an installation in the physical world and a virtual/augmented reality experience, both staged in the same space.
The public enters a life-size replica of a kitchen. The room and all of its objects are entirely covered in yellow. In the virtual world, which can be accessed using specialized equipment, the kitchen feels straight out of the 1970s. In this environment from another era, the public is invited to discover and interact with the original objects and furniture, in their initial appearance.
By superimposing the outdated aesthetic of a 1970s domestic space onto the whimsical and “futuristic” aesthetic that one might find in the Metaverse, the artist invites us to an experience that is both familiar and destabilizing, where the common, having been mixed with the unknown, throws our bearings and our perceptions of the world off course.
Biography
In the age of artificial intelligence, Montreal artist Gilles Tarabiscuité is fascinated by the relationship between humans and digital technologies. His principle preoccupation is to re-materialize works of art, and to stage, in three dimensions, images generated and destined for flat screens. Within the context of the widespread adoption of digital technologies, he explores new ways of bridging the dichotomies of the material and the immaterial, the real and the virtual.
