Les planètes spectrales (2023-2026)

Created based on scientific knowledge of the interconnections stars have with their planets, Les planètes spectrales is a contemplative and hypnotic 3D animated piece, displaying extraterrestrial landscapes. Slow camera movements reveal the fantastical forms of four exoplanets. Located outside our solar system, these planets are shaken by cataclysmic events caused by their respective stars: a red dwarf, a blue giant, a yellow dwarf, and a binary star system. Oscillating between a realistic and somewhat graphic style, and a modernist-inspired abstraction, the video draws the viewer into landscapes composed of multiple materialities. Snow, water, lava, and desert sands are dominated by dense atmospheres with shifting hues. Composed by Thierry Gauthier, the soundtrack combines digital music and soundscapes, conjuring references to science fiction and horror films to evoke sentiments ranging from expectation to desolation.
Biography
Julie Tremble is a video and animation artist. Her work has been presented in Canada and internationally, in art galleries which include Museum Ludwig (Budapest), The Factory (Iceland), Dazibao, OBORO (2026), the Galerie Joyce Yahouda (Montreal), the Grand Théâtre de Québec, VU (Québec), the Foreman art gallery, Sporobole (Sherbrooke), as well as various film and media arts festivals.
She has also presented her work as a part of international multidisciplinary conferences: the biennial meeting of the International Society for the History, Philosophy and Social Studies of Biology (University of Toronto) and Origine de la vie, discours et représentation (Acfas, University of Montreal). In 2023, she was welcomed as a research resident at the Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering of Strasbourg (ISIS).
