HISTOIRES INVISIBLES – VARIATIONS, 2023
Multi-channel installation: vidéo, son, impression (30 min)
HISTOIRES INVISIBLES – VARIATIONS is an immersive and sensorial space where each spectator is invited to navigate through a multiplicity of temporalities to compose their own narratives. By combining multichannel devices, videos, soundscapes and large-format photography, the work offers a constellation of interpretative and narrative trajectories and the possibility to reconstruct them ad infinitum.
The notion of borders, as a zone of friction, interaction or opposition, is at the heart of the installation. Fragments of lives intertwine, brush against and respond to each other, weaving a poetic web through places, movements and memory. Between slowness, acceleration, and suspension, materials and landscapes overlap and transform, echoing the natural cycles of life. HISTOIRES INVISIBLES – VARIATIONS interrogates the space that humans occupy in a changing world and evokes the traces, both ephemeral and indelible, that they leave in their journeys across the territory.
Biography
Through his installations, Jean-François Côté explores in a conceptual, poetic and critical manner notions related to image, sound, narrative and the environment in a context of digital and ecological transition. Faced with the omnipresence of mass media, he transforms images into delicate spaces to inhabit.
The work of Jean-François Côté has been presented in numerous exhibitions in Canada, Mexico, Chile, Croatia, Greece and China, among others. Based in Quebec City, he is a professor at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières (UQTR), co-founder of the Laboratoire intersectoriel en art, technologie et environnement “SYMBIOSE”, and he also works in the permanent public art space.
